ClTY PARK (Városliget)

14th district.
The one sq. km area is Budapest's largest park, a favourite recreational and entertainment district. The first written record mentioned it as a marshland in 1241. After 1298 several national assemblies were held here (standing!), while King Matthias may have used it as a game park. Planned afforestation began in 1817, turning it into one of the world's first planned public park.
A part of the City Park Pond is an ice-rink in winter. Other sights in the park include the Zoo, the Transport Museum, the Municipal Circus, the Funfair, the Petőfi Hall with the Aviation Museum and the Garden Of Blinds - unique in Europe - where a Braille-map informs the guests about the flowers and greens around.

Bicycles can be rented, and a peculiar vehicle the bike carriage (sedate pedal-car),which makes getting around the island a truly memorable experience.
